In addition to cultural conservation, the British government places a high priority on protecting the natural environment, and Mill Hill is one of the places that stressed the importance on nature reservation. Surrounded by green fields, the nature reserve in Mill Hill also provides a variety of British sports games, while the traditional scenery is well-preserved.
One of the largest and most well-known nature reserves in Mill Hill is Darland’s Nature Reserve. It has a rich mix of species of woodlands, wetlands and grasslands that provide lovely rural walks with spectacular views across the valley. Residents can spend their leisure time walking along the reserve’s pathways, breathing fresh air and admiring the valley’s stunning views. Apart from Darland’s Nature Reserve, Belmont Farm is also a nice place to visit. In Belmont Farm, you are able to meet and feed varieties of animals, like sheep, alpaca, ponies, etc. - a hotspot for families with children to visit during weekends.
This unique location enables people to participate in traditional British sports on their doorstep, such as cricket and golf at the Mill Hill Cricket Club and Finchley Golf Club. Horse-riding is also a popular pursuit in the UK. The London Equestrian Centre, located in the Totteridge Valley, is commended by the British Horse Society where lessons, family hacks and livery places are available.
With the well-developed transportation network, it only takes 21 minutes to get to the central London via the underground. According to the London Evening Standard, more and more families are relocating from central London to Mill Hill in recent years for a more spacious and open living environment.
